BOSTON, MA (December 21, 2017) – The Salvation Army of Massachusetts announced today that a generous donor, Robert Assarian of Framingham, placed two tickets to a June 21, 2018 U2 concert at Boston’s TD Garden in a Red Kettle. The tickets are currently up for auction until 12:00pm on Saturday, December 23. Anyone interested in bidding on the tickets can call 617-308-3547 to place a bid. All proceeds from the sale will be given to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Fund, which provides critical meals, warm clothing, and toys for struggling families at Christmastime.
“Over the years, generous donors have placed items of value in our kettles in the hopes they’ll be sold to fund programs and services for those in need in Massachusetts each Christmas,” said Major David B. Davis, The Salvation Army’s Massachusetts Divisional Commander. “This gift from Mr. Assarian is another example of the creativity and kindness of The Salvation Army’s incredible base of support, and we thank him for it.”
The donation of valuable U2 tickets is in line with a raft of contributions The Salvation Army has received this year. A gold and diamond brooch, valued at more than $5,000, was placed into a Red Kettle last month by an anonymous donor, part of a new tradition of jewelry donation sparked by a 2014 gifting of a widow’s wedding rings. Dozens of jewelry donations followed the brooch this year- for example, in Framingham, a diamond and sapphire ring was donated by the same anonymous donor who has given beautiful pieces of jewelry in Red Kettles three years in a row. Salvation Army officials have seen an outpouring of generosity from bidders for these objects, who know that proceeds from the sale go directly to the Red Kettle campaign.
The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is a critical source of funding for the vital programs and services that serve hundreds of thousands of children, families and seniors across Massachusetts throughout the year. This includes meals, toys and other holiday support for those in need, along with funding for food pantries, soup kitchens, social services, and education programs throughout the year.
The Salvation Army has set a statewide Red Kettle Campaign goal of $3.5 million this year.
