Emergency Utilities Assistance/Good Neighbor Energy Fund
Households must be Boston residents (with the exception of East Boston, which is handled by the Chelsea/East Boston Salvation Army unit)
-Households must provide proof of income, verification of who/how many reside at the residence, current utility bill, and any documentation verifying the emergency need.
-Assistance on utility bills involves the consideration of carious factors including the availability of funding, how much is owed, if we have assisted before, and how the household plans to resolve the crisis.
-Households with a shut-off notice or termination of services have first consideration.
Emergency Furniture Assistance
Pending on funding availability households who are fire victims and who are moving out of shelters into permanent housing. Clients need referral from Red Cross or shelter confirming their termination. Vouchers are issued to Salvation Army thrift stores to purchase items.
Emergency Clothing Assistance
Individuals are issued a voucher to purchase clothing from local Salvation Army thrift stores. Fire victims, homeless individuals and those trying to obtain new employment can receive vouchers. Individuals must provide a referral letter from local agency.
Emergency Rent/Mortgage Assistance
Household must provide proof of income verification, whho lives in the home, current records providing arrangement of information about transitioning to a new location. Program is provided to prevent homelessness.
Food Pantry Assistance
Households are provided food bags of canned goods, frozen items and meat. Households are provided with enough items to last for 3-4 days.
Food Pantry: Thursday at 10 a.m.
Food Rescue Program: Friday at 2 p.m.
Energy Efficieny Funds Assistance
Assistance is provided to households to conserve energy and reduce utility cost by purchasing energy star qualified appliances. (Limited to refrigerators and air conditioners for elderly and disabled persons). Household must provide proof of income, documentation of those residing in the home. Household must provide at least two estimates from different stores of the items needed. A verification request letter must be provided by the landlord or the management company.

2021 Holiday Assistance Registration is Open
You will need to bring in the following information:
- Proof of identification (such as an ID or utility bill)
- Current utility bill (home phone, gas, electric, cable and water) – verifies where you live
- Birth Certificate of each child in your household under the age of 16
- Proof of financial need (MassHealth Card, WIC, SSI approval letter, Current pay stub, etc.)
