Jennifer never dreamed
she and her three young children would be spending their Christmas holiday
fleeing for safety from her abusive husband.
But when his violence
turned toward the kids, she knew she couldn't wait. She loaded up a moving
truck with what belongings she could manage, grabbed the children, and hit the
road.
Along the way, Jennifer pulled into a truck stop to change her
babies' diapers. While there, her wallet was stolen, leaving her penniless and
in tears. With no one to turn to for help, she called The Salvation Army.
Broke, and Broken Hearted
Thanks to the
support of caring people like you, we were able to work with community partners
to provide Jennifer and her kids with a safe place to hunker down for
Christmas. They had meals including Christmas dinner and the kids even received
gifts which added joy to Christmas morning.
Maybe most important, Jennifer found strength in the compassion she and her children received - and a renewed hope that everything would be OK. After Christmas, Jennifer was able to access childcare at one of our centers and the support she needed to put her life back together for her children.
Thank you for opening your heart and reaching out to families like
Jennifer's during their dark hour. You are a tremendous blessing to them and to
all of us here at The Salvation Army.
